African-Cherokee American Veterans

This is a project that I was working on with my father, the late Dr. Deorsey E. McGruder, Jr.

We were compiling a list of African-Cherokee Veterans of the Harlin, Riley, and McGruder families.

I hope to later include pictures and documents. Thank you for your service:

• Joseph Riley — soldier

• Mrs. Dorcus Harlin Riley (Buffington)— nurse

2. World War I

• John Seals (Cherokee by blood) — Army in WWI

3. World War II

• Johnny Clausene Seals, Jr.

4. Korea

• Lt. Colonel Sterlin Henry McGruder — South Korean infantry

• Captain Geneva Kay McGruder Moore — Air force Dietician also served in Korea

• Michael Johnson — paratrooper
